Latest Updates from Our Project:

Out of the Box: Encounters for 5th Edition
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 15, 2019 at 10:12:33 PM

Hi folks!

First up, almost everyone should have received their rewards by now. There are still four backers who did not complete their surveys. We have the rewards waiting so if you're one of them, we'd love to get your little abominations out to you.

Note: If you have NOT received your pledge, please get in touch ASAP and we'll try to sort it out :).

Bagthulhus are now available for regular retail at our etsy shop, so if there's anyone you'd like to convert to the cult of Bagthulhu, send them there. And don't forget to ask your local FLGS about stocking our cuddly little abominations.

Next up: The super cool folks at Nerdarchy (who helped us out with our campaigns and are still doing so) are running a kickstarter campaign of their own.

Out of the Box: Encounters for 5th Edition
Out of the Box: Encounters for 5th Edition

Out of the Box is a series of ready to play encounters and situations for every campaign.

  • Need a few encounters to spice up a long boring journey? They've got you covered.
  • Filler dungeon crawl needing some filler? Check.
  • Need a new monster, a new magic item, or a bit of lore? Check, Check, and Check.

Out of the Box contains

  • A foreword written by Matt Mercer
  • 30 unique encounters — even more with stretch goals by RPG industry professionals and influencers
  • New monsters — including new legendary creatures, lairs and regional effects
  • New magic items adventurers will really have to earn — especially when the monsters are using them!
  • Map packs for every encounter to put down on your table
  • Flat plastic miniatures for each encounter

While the encounters are written for 5e, they are easily portable to other systems.

At the time of writing, Out of the Box is around 70% funded. Nerdarchy has been good to us, so if it's up your alley, this KS is definitely worth a look.

Shipping is complete
about 5 years ago – Mon, Mar 25, 2019 at 11:22:25 PM

All the manufactured Bagthulhus have officially been shipped.

We did it.

There's still lots to do, but this phase of the project is done. It's been a big part of my life. You folks have been a big part of my life.

Things are still... pretty raw over here with everything that's happened so I'm going to keep this short, lest I lapse into a rant. There will be more info to come; a round up of lessons learned and where to from here.

But for now, thank you.

NZ terrorist attack update (CW: Mass shooting, terrorism)

CW: Mass shooting, terrorism

I imagine most folks have seen the news about the terrorist attacks here in Aotearoa/New Zealand. We are based quite a long way from Christchurch - the city that was attacked. Myself, my helper, and our immediate families are safe. There's more below if you want to read it. You don't have to if you don't want to. Fair warning: My head is not in a great space, there will likely be typos, and a lot of anger.

Information is still all over the place. When I first heard about it this afternoon the death toll was 6. Then it rose to 9. Now I'm reading that it's 49. There's been reports of one of the shooters recording and uploading one of the attacks, reports of there being ten or more shooters, reports of all kinds of things.

The main targets were two mosques. There were early reports of attacks on a hospital and a church, which to my knowledge were inaccurate. There were also reports of bombs, including one or two in Auckland (our largest city, at the other end of the country). There were multiple, coordinated attacks, and while I understand the police now have four people in custody, it's hard to believe that this is over.

I realise that the majority of you folks are from the US or the EU, you have cities with bigger populations than my entire country. NZ's resident population is 4-5 million, somewhere between that of LA and New York city. It's unusual to NOT know anyone in Christchurch. I know people in Christchurch, my flatmate has family there, one of my oldest friends lives there. And while I checked off my friends as safe, they still had loved ones in lockdown, loved ones they couldn't reach, people who couldn't get home.

I don't know if it's been confirmed yet but it's pretty clear that this was a white supremacist, Islamophobic series of attacks. There's a mosque not too far from us. I drove past it after picking up a set of glue sticks to finish a commission (this morning I was worrying about finding low temp glue sticks). I wondered why people were leaving. When I saw the news I learned that it was because the police asked every mosque in the country to close for fear of their safety. They're just people, the only interaction of note I've had with the people who attend that mosque is when they ran a fundraiser for tsunami victims. They walk to work, they have families, families that will have to bury their murdered loved ones. Those 49 victims in Christchurch were just people living their lives and this happened to them here. They're our people and they were murdered on our soil. We should have kept them safe.

And then, after following the news all day, I saw certain individuals who probably couldn't have pointed to my country on the map, pontificating on social media, using the still happening tragedy to take a swipe at 'the media'. I told them to fuck off, to go to hell, and to not come back. Depending on where my head's at over the next few days, I may do it again. How dare they. How dare they use innocent blood on our soil to further a political agenda.

I completely understand if you want to mute/block my social media channels (if you follow them) for a while or forever. I have a lot of rage to work out. I just... I want to scream and cry and just... I want it to not be real. They should have been safe here. We owe them so much better than this.

If anyone wants to donate to support for the victims they can do so here -
